Steps to take to get your license

Let's review what you need to do to obtain your license

There are 4 items to be completed to get your Life, Accident and Health or Sickness (Life Agent) license.

1. Complete your required 52-hour course

2. Pass your Insurance License Exam

3. Get your LiveScan fingerprints done

4. Apply online for your insurance license

For steps 1-3, it doesn't matter what order you complete these.  As long as all are completed before submitting your online application for your license.

52-Hour Course

Check with your manager to see it they have a discount code for your required course/hours.  This is required to get your license.  The course can be online or in-person.  Online is preferred since it works with your available time and schedule.  In the course you will learn insurance terminology and concepts along with the different insurance policies available.  You will also review the rules and regulations of the industry as part of the Code and Ethics section.

The exam is 150 questions with a passing score of 60% (in California, 70% in other states).  That means you need to get 90 correct out of 150.  You will have 3-hours to complete the exam; plenty of time for most people.  The exam can be taken at an approved location or online.  (please review the guidelines for taking the exam online, they are quite strict)  In most cases, you will know right away whether or not you have passed, some locations email the results.  To register for your exam, you will use the www.psiexams.com site.

See below for the steps.

At this time the cost is $98.00 to take the exam.  If you do not pass, you will need to pay the $98 again for a retest.
