Your insurance license is valid for 2-years. That means that every 2-years, you will need to pay your renewal fee to the Department of insurance and complete 24-hour of continuing education.
90-days prior to your renewal date, the Department of Insurance will email you a general notice about your renewal date and the continuing education requirements that need to be met.
Please check with your manager regarding any discount codes for continuing education. Typically, this can be accomplished with an online, open book exam. 70% is the passing score for most sites.
Required Continuing Education Courses:
For every license renewal, you will need to complete a 3-hour course on Ethics.
If you are planning on soliciting and selling fixed annuities, you will need to complete an 8-hour course on annuities on your first licensing period. You will then have to complete a 4-hour annuities course for every licensing period after that to continue to offer annuities.
If you are planning on offering Long Term Care, you will need to complete an 8-hour Long Term Care course every licensing period.
These required courses count towards your 24-hour requirement every two years, not in addition to it.
Pay your renewal fees:
Prior to your license renewal date, you will need to pay your renewal fees also.
At this time, the fee is $188.00 per license. (if you only have your Life, Accident and Health or Sickness license, this counts as 1 license)
You can update your application and pay your renewal fees online at https://www.sircon.com/products/renew.jsp
If you are late to renew:
Your license is valid for 2-years. If you do not renew your license within the two year period, you still have one year to renew with a late fee (the late fee is 50% of the license renewal fee).
You will need to complete the required continuing education to do this.
If you do not renew your license within this 1-year grace period, you will have to star from the beginning. That means studying to take and pass your exam again.
Please reach out with any questions regarding any information on this section.
